This tall chest of drawers was made by the prestigious firm, R.J. Horner of New York City. This is one of a 3 piece matching bedroom set. The carvings and inlay are amazing! The removable shield shaped beveled mirror has a deeply carved crest of leaves and bell flowers. Notice the carved mirror supports and extensive inlay surrounding the frame. The inlay is delicate looking and finely executed. The mirror has gilded cast brass knobs which secures the mirror which adjusts at various angles. The Bombay shaped chest has 3 small dovetailed drawers over 4 long drawers which graduate in height. All the drawers are heavily inlaid in various woods such as maple, satinwood, etc. The top drawers have concave fronts followed by 2 drawers with bowed fronts. All the drawers retain their original working locks, key and gilded cast brass pulls. The inlay extends along the heavily carved skirt below the bottom drawer. The corners of the chest and feet are deeply carved. The dresser rests on its original brass casters. Another wonderful feature is a secret jewelry drawer cleverly disguised in the molding along the side of the top. The jewel tray has its original felt lining. The finish is original and in amazing condition having only some minor rubs on the top. All the drawers open and close smoothly. The finish has a deep rich color and the best patina.
