This solid cherry and mahogany gentleman’s wardrobe is both unusual and of exceptional quality. We attribute it to Allen and Brothers of Philadelphia, PA. The cabinet is comprised of 2 pieces for ease in moving. The arched top has acanthus leaf carvings along the sides and a recessed center panel with intricately and deeply carved scrolling leaves and vines. The single door has a large beveled glass mirror and its original brass key escutcheon with working lock and key. Inside are 8 original cast brass hooks. These were originally designed to hang gentlemen’s shirts. The interior can be easily modified to support shelves. The base has 3 hand dovetailed drawers which graduate in size. The top drawer has a beautiful bird’s eye maple interior with 6 divided sections for a gentleman’s socks, ties, etc. All the drawers retain their original heavy duty cast brass hardware and working locks. Notice the delicately carved elements on either side of the top drawer and fluted molding below. The cabinet rests on recessed casters. Also notice the recessed panels on the sides of the cabinet. The finish is original and is in excellent condition. There are 3 small ring shaped stains above the top drawer, but they are minor. This exceptional piece would work for a variety of storage purposes and would make a statement in any home or office.
