This pair of mahogany Chippendale style side chairs are from the 1880’s and are referred to as Centennial furniture. At that time we were celebrating our 100th anniversary as a nation and commemorating our earlier furniture styles such as Philadelphia Chippendale. The pierced carved back is elegantly presented, along with the carved shell below the seat and the boldly carved ball and claw feet. Amazingly, the chairs appear to retain their original hand stitched floral seat covering. Note that one has tears along the fabric framing the hand stitching. The central fabric can be saved and reframed if you want to save the coverings. Otherwise, the seats are designed to lift out and can easily be recovered by any “do it yourselfer”. Amazingly, the chairs retain their original finish which is in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and patina. The frames are tight and also in excellent condition.
