This unusual silver plate platter was made by the prestigious firm; James Tufts of Boston. The quality and attention to detail is impressive. The raised fish design was created by indenting from the bottom of the platter creating a 3D effect. The fish is depicted swimming through ripples of water. It is beautifully executed. Notice how the fish tail cleverly lays over the dish’s side and onto the platter’s rim. There is a delicate rope design along the rim. The platter has some minor loss in the silver plating. What an unusual example of Victorian figural silver plating.
