This display of Victorian hair art is fascinating. During the Victorian era, loved one’s hair was used to make jewelry and floral displays. Notice the variety of hair colors and different styles of delicate braiding to mimic a variety of flowers and bouquets. The hair appears wrapped around thin wire and green silk threads were used to mimic the stems. Each piece is attached to a light fabric in a glass topped box. Look closely and you will see that the box is an original counter top display case for Chiclet gum! Chiclets was first introduced in the 1890’s. The hair art may have been woven at an earlier date and later placed in the Chiclet display case. The hair pieces and case are in excellent condition.
