This early unglazed pottery is called cane ware. This particular form used to store butter. Notice the molded shafts of wheat on the left lid and along the sides. Amazingly, the dish is in excellent condition having no chips or repairs. There is an impressed on the bottom which reads W.S. and Sons. We believe it is from the potter works of William Sattler and sons of Bavaria, Germany. What a treat to find a signed piece in such amazing condition and decorative form.
