This tall, solid oak bookcase is called a barrister or stacking bookcase. They originally were designed to hold reference books for lawyers, hence the use of the word barrister. The bookcase is comprised of 7 separate pieces; a cap, 5 glass sections and a base. Each of the sections has a glass front that lifts up and slides back for easy access. All have their brass knobs. Each section can accommodate books up to 12” tall. Notice the base with the added feature of a drawer. The bookcase appears to retain its original finish which is in excellent condition. This piece of furniture does not have a label but may be made by Gunn Manufacturing Co., one of the popular makers of such bookcases.
