This exceptional solid mahogany, small sized, Centennial desk is in the Chippendale style. This is not your typical mass produced fall front desk. Centennial furniture refers to those items made during the 100th anniversary celebration of our nation during the 1870’s. Earlier styles were revived and highlighted by small specialty cabinet shops offering goods of high quality and attention to detail. This is a prime example. The fall front has a deeply carved shell design with scrolling acanthus leaves and its original cast brass hardware and working lock with key. The lid drops down to become the writing surface and rests on two slide-out supports. Inside are 4 open cubbies, 4 hand dovetailed drawers and a document door. The small door has a fan carving on the front and its original working lock with key. Below are 4 hand dovetailed drawers with all original cast brass hardware with working locks. The desk rests on boldly carved ball and claw feet having knees with acanthus carvings. Notice the delicate reeded quarter columns in the front corners. The desk retains its original finish which is in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and patina. It’s petite size makes it perfect for any room in the house.
