This solid quarter sawn oak barrister or stacking bookcase was made by the Globe Wernicke Company. Barrister bookcases were originally designed to be used by lawyers to hold their files and law books. This bookcase is unusual because it has a deeper stepped out base for larger folio type books. The bookcase is comprised of 5 separate pieces; the cap, 3 glass door units and the base. This makes it easy to transport or add more units. All have glass fronts which lift up and slide back for easy access. All have their original glass fronts and brass knobs. The base unit will take books up to 12” tall and 9.5” deep. Another unit will store books up to 9.25” tall by 8” deep and the other unit will take up to 10.5” tall by 8” deep. The bookcase appears to retain its original finish which is in excellent condition having a warm color and rich patina.
