This custom mahogany Chippendale stand with mirror is a beauty. Its small size would serve a variety of purposes such as a hall table, vanity or bedside table. Due to its design and age, this is regarded as Centennial furniture which regained popularity after the 1876 celebrations of our 100th anniversary as a nation. The attached mirror has a rope carving design along its outside and inside edges. The original mirror has a wide beveled edge. It is designed to adjust and tilt in its frame. There is some silvering loss near the middle of the mirror. This only adds charm and authenticity. The mirror is supported by two posts with carved flame finials. The base has a rope carved design on the top and carved acanthus leaves in the corners. Below is a long drawer over 2 small drawers. All are hand dovetailed and have their original polished cast brass hardware. Notice the deeply carved shell pattern on the top drawer and the delicately carved detail on the arched opening. There are reeded quarter columns in each corner of the chest. It rests on tall, slender legs with shell carved knees and ending with boldly carved ball and claw feet. The finish is original having a deep rich color and very desirable patina.
