This incredible 5 piece hand painted Victorian cottage style bedroom set retains its original painted finish which is in remarkable condition. The style and period is Renaissance Revival Victorian. Painted sets like these were popular in the 1860-1890’s and were often used in the country cottages or second homes of persons of means. They were always professionally painted and varied in colors and styles. This set is unusual because of the marble top on the dresser and washstand. Most cottage sets have painted wood tops. The matching set consists of full or double size bed, dresser, washstand, table and 2 chairs. The bed measures 83” tall, 60” wide and 78” deep. The marble top dresser measures 84” tall, 44.5" wide by 18” deep. The marble top washstand measures 40” tall, 29” wide and 16” deep. Notice the 4 unusual towel bars which slide out and have their original porcelain pulls. The dresser and washstand retain their original ebonized teardrop pulls and their marble tops are in excellent condition. The small table measures 29” tall by 31” wide and 17” deep. There is rust looking stain on the lower shelf. That’s the only apology in this entire set! There are 2 small chairs with caned seats which are all tight and sturdy. You will be thoroughly impressed with this set. Its condition is amazing. When I first saw the set, I assumed it had been repainted but not so. I believe it was rarely used. All the drawers open and close smoothly. The main color is hard to describe. It’s a grayish beige with taupe and cream color accents and soft orange pinstripes. It is wonderful!
