This pine northern Europe step-back cupboard retains its original red wash with ebonized highlighting. The top crest displays its original painted date and owner’s initials. Notice the intricately stamped brass decorations applied throughout its surface. It’s amazing they have survived and remained intact. I love the one with the acorn décor. The cabinet is all wonderfully hand planed and the raised paneled doors are mortised with wooden pegs – incredible. Check out the original ornate brass key escutcheons, the carved ebonized diamond shaped design on each door and the carved ebonized fan shaped design below the top door. The top door opens to reveal its original handmade lock and key. Inside is one narrow shelf and a second deeper shelf. The bottom door retains its original lock and inside is a single shelf. The cabinet rests on ebonized bracket feet. There are applied brass rosettes on the 2 front feet as well. The fact that this cupboard is in phenomenal condition yet all original and dates from 1838 makes it a wonder. Its size lends itself to a variety of uses.
