This unique early recliner is called a Morris chair. What makes this chair rare is the finely carved heads on the arm supports. The details on the face and hair are exceptional. Notice the carved chest and acanthus leaves along the body and the boldly carved paw feet. The chair is designed to recline in 4 different positions by adjusting the iron rod on the back. The rod is supported by heavy duty cast iron hardware. The chair frame appears to be a combination of maple and mahogany. Notice the shapely back. The upholstery is faded and serviceable, but ideally should be replaced. The frame is tight and the finish is in excellent condition. This chair is extremely comfortable and is designed to handle extensive use. What a statement this will make in any home.
