This hard to find solid brass string holder was a necessary item in every store and most homes in the late 1800’s thru the 1920’s. The top half unscrews and balls of twine were stored inside. The twine was fed through to outside hole opening and used to wrap packages – long before tape! The iron bottom is weighted so the string holder stays in place. The string holder can easily be polished but we prefer the aged look as a result of time passing. What a cool piece of early Americana.
