This antique, German made beer stein was cleverly designed to look like a wooden bowling pin. Beware, this large stoneware stein will hold 1 ¾ liters of beer! The pewter rim and thumb lift are in excellent condition. The handle has a rope design along the sides. The surface of the stein was made to look like wood graining – so cool! There is a high relief or cameo effect of a young boy holding a bowling ball. He is sitting on a silvered number 9 with scattered bowling pins below. Behind him is a decorative banner. If you look closely, you will see there is some silvering worn off on the number 9 and very small areas of rubbings on the stein. These hardly detract, given the large size, fine detailing and graphic subject matter. This has all the quality and design of a Mettlach German stein, but is unsigned. There are impressed numbers on the bottom of the piece. There are no chips, cracks or repairs.
