This walnut secretary bookcase is on the Victorian Renaissance Revival style. The cabinet is designed to come apart in 3 main pieces making it easy to transport. Its design would serve a variety of purposes such as use as a desk, bookcase or display. Notice the highly figured walnut graining throughout! The cornice is proud and bold with canted corners throughout the case. Each shapely door retains its original glass and working lock with key. The smaller doors have 2 adjustable shelves and the taller ones each have 3 adjustable shelves. The center double paneled door drops down to reveal a writing desk. The door retains its original working lock and key. Inside is a beautiful satinwood interior comprised of 6 cubbies, 2 vertical file holders, 4 small drawers and one long drawer. All the drawers have finely carved hand dovetails. The original wooden knobs have some chips but still functional. The long drawer has an applied carving of contrasting walnut and its original working locking and a key. Notice the delicately carved acanthus leaves on either side of the recessed original mirror. The leather looking writing surface is an appropriate replacement. The stepped out base has 3 hand dovetailed drawers with recessed paneled fronts and their original working locks. Below are more doors with burled walnut raised paneled fronts having their original locks and key. Each has a shelf. The secretary is in excellent condition having a warm color and desirable patina. What a grand piece for your home or office.
